[sudden] South African Manganese Mine unable to ship due to Railway derailment is expected to affect China's Manganese Mine Import in January

Published: Dec 3, 2018 13:42

SMM12, March 3: according to foreign media reports, on November 30, South African manganese mine Assmang and UMK (United Manganese of Kalahari) announced that South African national transport company Transnet announced that iron ore and manganese ore could not be delivered on time. Transnet said it would rebuild the bridge and resume safe operation in two weeks after an accident on Nov. 28 that damaged the bridge and terminated railway operations.

Earlier, it was reported that the South African railway freight company Transnet stopped transportation due to the continuation of maintenance equipment for a period of time from November 20 to 26, which caused problems for local manganese mine producers. Because the railway transportation is blocked, the manganese ore raw material transportation from the mine to the port can only choose the truck, the manganese mine producer transportation cost therefore increases.

According to SMM interviewers, in addition to port maintenance incidents in South Africa, other countries have also recently stepped up their efforts to crack down on illegal mining, and transportation is not easy due to climate reasons, and other overseas ports may also have the possibility of overhauling news. These news have little impact for the time being, and the direct impact on prices is not easy to estimate, but under the comprehensive effect, the port spot resources of manganese mines at the end of the year will not be as sufficient as in recent months, which may be good for domestic manganese miners.

It is reported that Transnet State Transport Company of South Africa, a state-owned company wholly owned by the South African government, headquartered in the Carlton Center in Johannesburg, is mainly responsible for the construction, management and transportation of railway infrastructure in South Africa. It is the largest and most important part of the logistics industry chain in South Africa and plays an important role in supporting the sustained and stable economic and social development of South Africa.
